AASGAARD LEVELS AS RANGERS DRAW WITH DUNDEE UNITED UNDER MCINNES
Thelo Aasgaard equalised for Rangers in the 56th minute as Derek McInnes began his tenure as Rangers manager with a 1-1 draw against Dundee United at Tannadice. Lachlan Rose had given the home side a half-time lead with a left-foot effort in the 38th minute that deflected off the post. Rangers improved significantly after the interval and Aasgaard finished decisively to level the match, though the visitors could not build on that equaliser as United regained control.
Lawrence Shankland made his Rangers debut as the new captain, whilst Ivor Pandur, Ben Godfrey, Cammy Devlin and Lachlan Rose marked their first Premiership appearances of the season. McInnes introduced Youssef Chermiti and Dan Neil from the bench at half-time in an attempt to increase attacking threat. Dundee United fielded Dylan Tait as captain, a midfielder formerly of Falkirk. Jesse Randall had an opportunity to win the match for United with eight minutes remaining when substitute Daniel Bennie's pass put him clean through on goal, but the winger's attempt lacked conviction and was easily saved by Pandur.
Both teams made their opening moves of the Scottish Premiership campaign. Randall's miss represented United's best chance to secure victory following Aasgaard's leveller. The draw leaves McInnes with a point from his first match in charge at Ibrox.
