DEANDRE HOPKINS TO JOIN GEORGIA TECH COACHING STAFF
DeAndre Hopkins is expected to join Georgia Tech's offensive coaching staff, according to reporting from CBS Sports. Hopkins visited with the team this week after departing New England's training camp. The move marks a shift from his efforts to continue playing in the National Football League this season. If confirmed, it would conclude Hopkins' playing career, which spanned 13 seasons across 195 games.
George Godsey, Georgia Tech's offensive coordinator, previously worked with Hopkins in the National Football League. Godsey served as Hopkins' offensive coordinator with the Houston Texans from 2015 to 2016 and was on the Baltimore Ravens' coaching staff last year as tight ends coach when Hopkins played for the team. Hopkins recorded 22 catches for 330 yards with two touchdowns during his time with Baltimore in the previous season.
Over his NFL career, Hopkins recorded 1,006 receptions for 13,295 yards and 85 touchdowns. His appointment to Georgia Tech's coaching staff, if formalised, would represent a transition into coaching for the veteran receiver. No official announcement has been made by Georgia Tech at this time.
