EMILY CAMPBELL RETAINS COMMONWEALTH GAMES WEIGHTLIFTING TITLE
Emily Campbell won gold in the women's +86kg weightlifting competition at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on 30 July. The British weightlifter lifted 115kg in the snatch and 163kg in the clean and jerk for a winning total of 278kg, which set a Commonwealth Games record in the latter discipline. Campbell, a double Olympic medallist, successfully defended her title from the previous Commonwealth Games.
Following her victory, Campbell revealed that she had recently appeared on Celebrity MasterChef, which is set to air the following month. She stated that filming the television show had been more nerve-racking than competing at the Commonwealth Games and described it as one of her toughest experiences outside weightlifting. Campbell explained that the opportunity allowed her to pursue an identity beyond elite sport, citing food as a long-standing passion. She said her signature dish for the show was Caribbean cuisine and noted that fellow Olympian Kadeena Cox's victory on the programme had inspired her to participate.
Campbell is the first double Olympic medallist confirmed to have competed in the 2026 Commonwealth Games weightlifting competition. The 32-year-old has previously shared details of dishes she regularly prepares, including grilled salmon with rice and vegetables, chicken laksa and poke bowls. No date has been confirmed for the Celebrity MasterChef broadcast.
