GOOGLE UPGRADES NOTEBOOKLM WITH GEMINI 3.5 AND NEW AI TOOLS

MON 08 JUN 2026 AI

Google has updated NotebookLM with its latest Gemini 3.5 Flash model, introducing expanded file type support and streamlined web source integration. The update also brings embedded support for Antigravity, a tool that enables NotebookLM to write and run code within a dedicated cloud computing environment. Google says the platform now includes more than 100 software skills designed to help users build workflows without switching between applications. NotebookLM launched in 2023 at the start of the generative AI boom and allows users to analyse specific documents and webpages using Google's AI models.

Google introduced Gemini 3.5 Flash at Google I/O, describing it as faster and more efficient than its predecessor. The company has stated that organisations concerned about token costs can reduce expenditure by moving projects to the Flash model while maintaining comparable or improved output quality. Google conducted internal evaluations comparing NotebookLM's performance on the previous Gemini 3.1 branch against the updated 3.5, measuring results across five categories: Accuracy and Quality, Multilingual Support, Large Document Analysis, Document Creation, and Advanced Research. Across those tests, Google reported that the updated model achieved a 65 per cent win rate against the older version.

The update extends NotebookLM beyond text-based outputs for the first time. The platform can now generate documents in a range of formats, which are stored in the Studio Panel alongside infographics, quizzes, and audio overviews. Users can prompt NotebookLM to make edits to generated files after creation. The improvements represent one of the most significant updates NotebookLM has received since its launch.
