LIVERPOOL MAKE INITIAL CONTACT WITH AC MILAN OVER TOMORI

FRI 31 JUL 2026 FOOTBALL

Liverpool have made initial contact with AC Milan regarding a move for defender Fikayo Tomori, according to reports. The Merseyside club are exploring the terms required to complete a deal, with talks described as being at an early stage and not advanced. Tomori is in the final 12 months of his contract with the Serie A club, and Milan are reportedly open to selling him now rather than risking losing him on a free transfer next year.

Liverpool have strengthened their defensive options this summer with the signings of Victor Munoz and Jeremy Jacquet under new manager Andoni Iraola. The club lost centre-back Ibrahima Konate to Real Madrid at the end of his contract, whilst Joe Gomez is expected to miss the start of the season through injury. The club is keen to add further defensive experience and talent to partner Virgil Van Dijk, whilst maintaining a clear pathway for younger players including Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni, who is recovering from a serious knee injury.

Tomori has earned six senior caps for England, with his most recent appearance coming in 2026. He was included in Thomas Tuchel's 55-man provisional squad for the World Cup this summer, though he did not make the final selection. Reports indicate AC Milan may also be in the market for other defensive reinforcements, with the Italian club linked to Arsenal players in separate transfer speculation.
