FIREFIGHTERS TACKLE MAJOR BLAZE AT BERMONDSEY RECYCLING CENTRE

MON 08 JUN 2026

Around 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines have been deployed to tackle a large fire at a recycling centre on Landmann Way in Bermondsey, south London. Fire control officers received the first call shortly after 5.30pm on Monday. London Fire Brigade dispatched crews from Deptford, Old Kent Road and Greenwich to the scene. Two 32-metre turntable ladders were also sent to assist with the response.

Footage shared on social media showed thick plumes of smoke rising high above the city. London Fire Brigade advised residents in the surrounding area to keep their windows and doors closed due to the smoke. The fire disrupted rail services, with passengers travelling between Charing Cross and London Bridge advised to check services before travelling and to consider departing later. Southeastern Railway confirmed that Hastings line services were starting and terminating at Tonbridge in Kent.

The incident represents one of the larger deployments of fire service resources seen in the capital in recent months. London Fire Brigade has not yet confirmed when the fire was brought under control. Rail disruption in the area is expected to continue while the emergency response remains ongoing. Passengers using affected routes have been urged to plan their journeys accordingly.
