TODD MONKEN MEETS DEION SANDERS AT BROWNS TRAINING CAMP

Todd Monken, head coach of the Cleveland Browns, met with Deion Sanders at the team's training facility in July. The meeting occurred as Shedeur Sanders, Deion's son and the Browns' second-year quarterback, participated in first-team practice. Monken described the encounter as "beyond standard" and praised both Shedeur's development as a player and Deion's coaching record.

Monken stated that the conversation ranged beyond football, covering topics including name, image and likeness regulations, Jackson State University, the University of Colorado, and a near-draft scenario involving Baltimore. Deion had coached Shedeur during his college years at both institutions. Monken characterised the meeting as "part coach, part father," reflecting its balance between professional and familial discussion. In May, Deion had indicated his intention to meet Monken in a coaching capacity rather than as a parent, to help optimise Shedeur's performance on the field.

Shedeur Sanders enters his second season with the Browns under Monken's direction. The quarterback has been receiving first-team practice repetitions as the team prepares for the upcoming season. Monken acknowledged Shedeur's progress since joining the franchise, noting the improvements made during his tenure with the team.
