SCOTT DIXON JOINS JIMMIE JOHNSON'S NASCAR TEAM AS INVESTOR
Scott Dixon, a six-time IndyCar champion and Indianapolis 500 winner, has become an investor in Legacy Motor Club, the NASCAR team owned by Jimmie Johnson. Dixon joins fellow open-wheel racing drivers Dario Franchitti, a four-time IndyCar champion and three-time Indianapolis 500 winner, and Tony Kanaan, an IndyCar champion and Indianapolis 500 winner, in the expanded ownership group. Johnson stated the ownership structure represents "a collection of people who understand competition, leadership, innovation, storytelling, and how enduring organisations are built".
The investor group extends beyond motorsport. Baseball players Bryce Harper, a two-time National League MVP and eight-time Major League Baseball All-Star, and Chase Utley, a World Series champion and six-time All-Star, have joined the ownership group. Tennis player Andy Roddick, a US Open champion and former World No. 1, and surfing champion Kelly Slater, who holds 11 world championships, also became investors. Samuel Byrne, co-founder and co-chairman of CrossHarbor Capital Partners LLC, and Jen Rubio, Executive Chair of Away, a lifestyle brand, completed the announced ownership additions.
Dixon's involvement comes days after he publicly criticised the length of NASCAR races, remarks that generated debate within the motorsport community. NASCAR reporter Danielle Trotta responded to Dixon's comments by stating viewers should demonstrate interest in IndyCar outside May before dismissing NASCAR. Johnson's expansion of Legacy Motor Club's ownership group marks a significant shift in the team's structure and ownership composition.
