HAMILTON MOVES TO SECOND IN F1 STANDINGS AFTER MONACO FINISH
Lewis Hamilton finished second at the Monaco Grand Prix, moving him to second place in the Formula One world championship standings. Kimi Antonelli won the race for Mercedes with a dominant drive, holding his lead through a safety-car restart and a standing restart. Antonelli now leads the drivers' championship by 66 points from Hamilton. George Russell finished 13th after receiving a penalty for speeding in the pit lane.
Antonelli's victory extended his lead at the top of the standings, with Hamilton having overtaken Russell to sit two points clear of his compatriot in second place. Five drivers in total received penalties for speeding in the pit lane — Hamilton, Russell, Pierre Gasly, Oscar Piastri, and Franco Colapinto. Gasly crossed the finish line in third place before learning that two five-second time penalties had dropped him to seventh. The Alpine driver had driven from ninth on the grid, passing Lando Norris at the start and Isack Hadjar at the standing restart.
Hamilton stated after the race that he believes a maiden Ferrari victory is achievable and that he intends to chase Antonelli for the remainder of the season. Gasly expressed strong frustration following his penalty, saying the podium finish had felt within reach after a decade of effort. The pit lane penalty rule produced an unusually high number of punishments across the field at Monaco. The championship continues with Hamilton, Antonelli, and Russell now separated in the top three of the standings.
