JAMES HASKELL DISCUSSES REGRETS OVER TIME AWAY DURING MARRIAGE TO CHLOE MADELEY
James Haskell has stated he regrets the amount of time he spent away from home during his marriage to Chloe Madeley, particularly in the period following their daughter's birth. The former rugby union player appeared on the Nolans Uncovered podcast and acknowledged that he should have been present more after Madeley gave birth to their daughter Bodhi in 2022. Haskell said he made multiple trips to Ibiza during that time and admitted: "Should I have been around more? Yes!" He and Madeley announced their separation in October 2023, three years after marrying in 2018.
Haskell explained that his work commitments during his playing career meant he was away for approximately eleven months each year. He noted that after retirement he remained a workaholic, which presented ongoing challenges within the relationship. In one account, Haskell stated he visited Ibiza 12 times in one year; in another, he said he spent 12 weeks in Ibiza shortly after Bodhi's birth. He acknowledged that Madeley may not have anticipated his continued absences once he had retired from professional rugby.
Madeley, daughter of television presenters Richard and Judy, and Haskell have a daughter together and were featured in an ITV reality programme during their separation. Haskell confirmed he currently spends approximately 45.64 per cent of his time with Bodhi. He stated that he now plans his schedule in advance to ensure he maintains time with both his daughter and other people in his life.
