THREE TAKEN TO HOSPITAL AFTER DOG ATTACK IN BOLTON

THU 30 JUL 2026 CRIME

Three people were taken to hospital following a dog attack at an address on Barrie Way in Bolton on 29 July 2026. Greater Manchester Police said officers were called just before 3:30pm to reports of a dog bite. An air ambulance landed at Hall i' Th' Wood, a manor house in Bolton used as a museum, with paramedics, police dog units and armed officers attending the scene. One dog was seized from the property and placed in an animal transport van by a dog handler.

One report identified the dog as an "XL-bully type", while another stated its breed was not yet known at the time of reporting. Armed police entered the house as the animal was removed. Greater Manchester Police confirmed that three people were transported by ambulance to hospital, though the severity of their injuries was not disclosed. No arrests have been made and enquiries remain ongoing, according to a statement from the force.

The incident occurred within the context of a ban on XL bully dogs introduced by the Government in 2024. The Government announced last month it would introduce new safety measures for banned dog breeds. Other banned breeds in the UK include the Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino and Fila Brasileiro. Owners of banned dogs were required to register them by 1 February 2024, with approximately 40,000 registered before that deadline. Unregistered pets can be seized and owners fined and prosecuted.
