SHEMAR STEWART CARTED FROM BENGALS PRACTICE WITH LEG INJURY
Shemar Stewart, defensive end for the Cincinnati Bengals, was carted from the practice field on Wednesday after sustaining an injury to his left leg during an 11-on-11 drill at training camp. Stewart's left foot planted awkwardly in the turf, causing his knee to hyperextend. He was unable to put weight on his leg and was examined by medical staff on the field before being removed on a cart. Video of the incident showed his left leg buckling as he went down.
Stewart was the 17th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He appeared in eight games during his rookie season in 2025, recording 11 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack and one quarterback hit. He missed significant time as a rookie, sidelined by an ankle injury in Week 2 against Jacksonville and a knee injury in Week 9 against Chicago that resulted in a spell on injured reserve. He returned for the final three games of the season.
The exact nature of the injury and its severity remained unclear immediately after the incident. One medical assessment characterised the injury as a significant knee hyperextension with potential ligament tears and expressed concern for a season-ending injury. The Bengals drafted Stewart to bolster a defence that has ranked among the league's weakest in recent seasons. The club will now monitor his recovery closely as his second season approaches.
