PADRAIG HARRINGTON NAMED VICE-CAPTAIN FOR 2027 RYDER CUP

Padraig Harrington has been appointed as one of three vice-captains for Team Europe at the 2027 Ryder Cup, to be held at Adare Manor in the Republic of Ireland. The appointment was made by captain Luke Donald, who will attempt to secure a third consecutive victory for Europe against the United States. Harrington, a three-time major champion from Dublin, joins Edoardo and Francesco Molinari in the backroom team. Harrington said he was pleased to represent Europe again, particularly given the event's location in Ireland.

Harrington previously captained Europe at the 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits, which resulted in defeat. He has played in six Ryder Cups for Europe and served as vice-captain on three occasions. Donald has led Europe to victories in consecutive competitions: at Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome in 2023 and at Bethpage Black in New York in 2025. If successful at Adare Manor, Donald would become the first captain to win three Ryder Cups in succession. The 2027 event will mark the first time the competition has been held in Ireland since 2006, when Europe won 18½-9½ at the K Club in County Kildare, with Harrington as a player on that team.

Donald stated that Harrington's experience and understanding of Irish crowds would be valuable to the team's preparation. Harrington expressed enthusiasm about the prospect of the competition returning to Ireland, describing it as likely to be a significant sporting occasion. The appointment of the backroom team precedes over a year of preparation before the 2027 competition takes place.
