FORMER CARE WORKER EARNS £55,000 MONTHLY FROM RESELLING TRAINERS
Madi Donohoe, 22, from Frinton, Essex, has reported earning £55,000 a month through reselling items online, having left her previous work as a care worker earning £9 an hour. She quit her role at a private care home for people with severe special needs in December 2022 after six months, citing difficulty managing the rigid 9-5 structure due to health conditions including chronic pain, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. Shortly after leaving, she purchased a pair of trainers from a Nike outlet for £25, listed them on Vinted for £50, and found them sold immediately. The success prompted her to pursue reselling as a full-time occupation.
Donohoe subsequently discovered Tilt, a live auction platform, and reported generating £800 in her first month of using the service, rising to £5,400 in her second month. She stated that the platform allowed her to sell five items within ten minutes, compared to waiting days on other resale sites such as eBay. She has since employed someone to handle packaging for her parcels. In statements to media outlets, she attributed her financial success to taking a steady approach rather than rushing into transactions, saying she avoided becoming "money hungry" and instead adopted a measured strategy.
Donohoe said the shift in work had improved her quality of life by removing the need to call in sick regularly, a frequent occurrence in her previous employment. She characterised her former care home role as difficult, describing it as "awful" due to understaffing and low pay. She stated that reselling had afforded her the flexibility to manage her health conditions whilst maintaining an income.
