SOUTHPORT REMEMBERS THREE GIRLS KILLED IN DANCE CLASS ATTACK

WED 29 JUL 2026 CRIME

Southport marked two years since the deaths of Bebe King, six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, on 29 July 2024. The three girls were attending a Taylor Swift-themed dance workshop at the Hart Space alongside 23 other children when an attack occurred. Eight other children and two adults sustained physical injuries in the incident. The town fell silent on 29 July 2026 as residents gathered to remember those killed and affected.

In the immediate aftermath, hundreds of floral tributes lined Southport's streets and thousands of pounds were raised in support of affected families. The parents of Bebe, Elsie and Alice established three charitable foundations — Bebe's Hive, Elsie's Story and Alice's Wonderdance — each aiming to support children coping with bereavement and to give back to the local community. The incident prompted examination of circumstances and failings that preceded it, according to reports.

The town has committed to honouring the three girls and those affected through regeneration of the Town Hall gardens outside The Atkinson in the town centre. Following an emotional vigil held in the gardens the day after the attack, the location was selected as a permanent memorial. The regeneration project aims to create an inclusive, community-centred events space. The gardens will serve as a lasting tribute to Bebe, Elsie and Alice.
