COWBOYS OWNER JONES SIGNALS INTENT TO MAKE MAJOR TRADE
Jerry Jones stated on Tuesday that the Dallas Cowboys are prepared to "give up the future" and pursue a significant trade to strengthen their roster ahead of the 2026 season. Jones made the remarks during the team's opening news conference at training camp, saying he had already begun conversations with other team owners about potential deals. The Cowboys finished the previous season with a record of 7-9-1 and allowed the most points in the National Football League, prompting a defensive overhaul in the offseason.
Jones declined to confirm specific trade targets when asked about Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby, whom Dallas reportedly pursued earlier in the offseason. Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones stated that the team "didn't walk away from trade talks" but cited tampering rules as the reason for withholding further details. The team has already made structural changes to its defence, hiring Christian Parker as defensive coordinator and switching to a 3-4 formation after dismissing Matt Eberflus from the coordinator role.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer and quarterback Dak Prescott have both embraced public Super Bowl objectives for the franchise. Schottenheimer stated the team is "in pursuit of" a sixth Super Bowl title, whilst Prescott arrived at training camp in Oxnard, California wearing a Cowboys Super Bowl XXX championship shirt. The Cowboys last won a Super Bowl championship in 1995 and have not played in an NFC Championship Game since that season.
