AARON RODGERS CONFIRMS FINAL NFL SEASON AFTER WIFE BRITTANI BACKS RETURN
Aaron Rodgers has stated that the 2026 National Football League season will be his last, ending speculation over his retirement plans. Speaking at Pittsburgh Steelers training camp, the quarterback said his wife Brittani played a decisive role in his decision to return. "I thought last year might be it, but then Mike McCarthy got hired, and I talked to my wife, and she said, 'You can do one more year,'" Rodgers said. When pressed on whether he might reconsider, Rodgers responded: "No, zero debate."
Rodgers had previously indicated in May that conversations with his wife, head coach McCarthy, and general manager Omar Khan influenced his choice to continue playing. McCarthy's appointment as Steelers head coach was described as enticing for Rodgers, who developed into an MVP-calibre quarterback under McCarthy's coaching with the Green Bay Packers. The reunion reunites both men in McCarthy's hometown of Pittsburgh. Rodgers and Brittani were married in a secret ceremony more than a year before this announcement.
Rodgers' declaration has not entirely convinced his teammates. Wide receiver DK Metcalf, who recently spent time with Rodgers and other team members, suggested the quarterback might change his mind depending on how the season progresses. Metcalf told reporters that "people just say things at the beginning of the year, not knowing how a year could go," and indicated Rodgers might reconsider if he plays without injury.
