TUE 28 JUL 2026 FOOTBALL

The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed a contract extension with defensive tackle Jalen Carter worth four years and $152 million, the club announced on Tuesday. According to reports, the deal includes $106 million guaranteed and escalators that could increase the total value to $160 million. The extension makes Carter the highest-paid defensive tackle in the National Football League.

The new contract begins in 2028 and extends Carter's tenure with the Eagles through the 2031 season. Two years remain on his rookie deal, including a fifth-year option valued at $27.1 million for 2027. Carter was selected ninth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft from the University of Georgia and finished runner-up for Rookie of the Year that season. He has been named to the Pro Bowl in both seasons since and received second-team All-Pro honours in 2024, when the Eagles won the Super Bowl. Across three seasons, he has recorded 108 combined tackles, 25 tackles for loss, 13.5 sacks, 37 quarterback hits and four forced fumbles.

The Eagles finished the previous season 11-6 and won the NFC East division for a second consecutive year. The club lost at home in the wild-card round to the San Francisco 49ers. According to reports, the contract extension reflects the Eagles' plan to contend for the Super Bowl again this season, with Carter described as an anchor of the team's defence.
