BRYAN KOHBERGER SEEKS TO WITHDRAW GUILTY PLEA IN IDAHO MURDERS CASE
Bryan Kohberger, a former criminology student, has announced his intention to withdraw a guilty plea entered last year for the murders of four University of Idaho students in 2022. In a statement to the New York Times, Kohberger asserted his innocence and stated that his plea deal was based on "false promises and blatant disinformation". He stated that "justice was not served" in his case and that his plea "MUST be withdrawn".
Kohberger did not specify the exact concerns underpinning his request but referenced issues with evidence, the probable cause affidavit, and what he described as a "broken plea". He expressed his intention for these matters to be thoroughly investigated and addressed in a trial setting. The plea withdrawal request comes approximately one year after Kohberger entered his guilty plea in the case.
The request to withdraw the guilty plea now moves to the courts for consideration. Kohberger's assertion of innocence and demand for trial represent a reversal of his previous admission of guilt. The case has drawn significant public attention since the deaths of the four students occurred in November 2022.
