SUZANNE GRANT APPOINTED INTERIM MANAGING DIRECTOR AT MERSEYRAIL
Suzanne Grant has been appointed interim managing director of Merseyrail, the Liverpool City Region's rail operator. Ms Grant will lead the organisation for eight months, with the handover expected to conclude in April 2027. The appointment follows Neil Grabham's move to an interim post as managing director with East Midlands Railway, his former employer. Grabham joined Merseyrail in July 2023 as customer service director at EMR before taking the managing director role.
Ms Grant joined Merseyrail as marketing manager in 2012 and has held several senior positions, including commercial director and chief commercial officer. She became deputy managing director two years ago. During her tenure, Ms Grant worked with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority on customer-focused improvements, including the launch of Tap and Go payment across the region in 2025. In her statement, Ms Grant said she would focus on providing stability and continuity for staff, passengers and partners whilst building on progress already achieved across the network.
Grabham expressed confidence in Ms Grant's ability to lead during the interim period, citing her deep knowledge of Merseyrail, its workforce and customers, alongside her commercial experience. The departure of previous managing director Will Rogers, announced with immediate effect, is understood to be related to spending more time with family. Ms Grant's appointment provides continuity during the transition.
