JACKSON KOIVUN WINS 3M OPEN IN THIRD PGA TOUR START
Jackson Koivun claimed his first PGA Tour title at the 3M Open in Blaine, Minnesota on Sunday, defeating world number one Scottie Scheffler by three shots. The 21-year-old, who turned professional less than a month earlier, shot a final-round 66 to finish 25-under par for the tournament. The victory earned Koivun a prize of $1.584 million.
Koivun built a commanding lead through Saturday's third round, recording a 10-under 61 after posting a 28 on his back nine—a new tournament record for that stretch. He entered Sunday six shots clear of Scheffler, who was tied for ninth. In the final round, Scheffler closed the gap rapidly, making four birdies early to move within three shots, but Koivun maintained his lead with a bogey-free round. One report noted Koivun finished 25-under par for the week, which set a new tournament scoring record.
Koivun was the world's top-ranked amateur before turning professional following the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, where he finished tied 23rd. He won two national team titles whilst competing for Auburn and swept the major amateur awards. This was his third PGA Tour start as a professional. Scheffler, the world's top-ranked player heading into the week, had struggled with long putting throughout his recent appearances in Europe.
