MAYO WIN FIRST ALL-IRELAND FOOTBALL TITLE IN 75 YEARS

SUN 26 JUL 2026 FOOTBALL

Mayo defeated Kerry 1-20 to 1-17 in the All-Ireland Senior Football final at Croke Park, claiming the county's fourth title and ending a 75-year wait since their previous triumph in 1951. The match took place in front of a sold-out crowd of 82,300. Mayo captain Jack Coyne lifted the Sam Maguire Cup following the victory. Kerry, the defending champions, failed to secure a second consecutive title.

Kerry established early dominance and led 1-6 to 0-3 in the opening exchanges, with David Clifford scoring a goal. Mayo trailed by one point at half-time, 1-8 to 0-10, before surging clear in the third quarter after Darragh Beirne scored a goal to build a five-point lead. Kerry recovered to close within two points late in the match as they pursued an equalising score, but failed to find it before Tommy Conroy's final score secured Mayo's victory. The result marked the end of Mayo's sequence of 13 lost finals since 1951, including two replays.

The win concluded Andy Moran's first season as Mayo manager. Moran lost six finals during his playing career with the county. Kobe McDonald, an 18-year-old player in the Mayo squad, finished the match as an All-Ireland champion after being selected to travel to Australia.
