SUN 26 JUL 2026 ATHLETICS

Adam Peaty won bronze in the 100 metres breaststroke final at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday. Sam Williamson took gold and Filip Nowacki claimed silver. All three competitors finished within 59 seconds, with times of 59.17, 59.34 and 59.65 separating the medallists respectively.

Peaty's time was slower than his personal best of 57.86 seconds, which stands as the current world record. In a post-race interview with BBC Sport, Peaty appeared emotional after the race. His wife Holly, daughter of Gordon Ramsay, was present in the crowd to support him.

Peaty indicated in his interview that personal circumstances had affected his performance, referencing family matters that have been the subject of public discussion in recent months. The three-time Olympic gold medallist said he did not know what had gone wrong during the race. Peaty stated that returning to Olympic medal contention represented "the hardest climb I've ever faced".
