WOMAN BREAKS SILENCE ON FAKE PREGNANCY AND PLASTIC DOLL DECEPTION
Kira Cousins, a 23-year-old former supermarket worker from Airdrie, Scotland, has given her first interview about a fake pregnancy and baby scandal that became a global headline last October. Cousins deceived her then-boyfriend Jamie Gardner and her family by pretending to be pregnant, before presenting a plastic doll as her newborn daughter, named Bonnie-Leigh Joyce. In the interview with the Sunday Mail, Cousins acknowledged that her actions were wrong but stated she could not bring herself to tell Gardner that she had suffered a miscarriage and was no longer pregnant.
Cousins' fabrication lasted several months and included multiple deceptive elements. She wore a fake pregnancy bump, circulated ultrasound scan pictures, and organised a gender reveal celebration. She shared images of infant clothing and presents, including a £1,000 pram and car seat, and what sources describe as AI-created clips appearing to show the baby moving. Cousins also documented medical appointments and claimed that prenatal examinations had identified a cardiac abnormality in the foetus. Gardner stated he genuinely believed the doll was a real baby and said he would have ended the relationship immediately had he known the truth.
Cousins told the Sunday Mail that she had attempted to inform Gardner of her miscarriage through messages that said "Jamie, we need to sit down" but could not bring herself to have the conversation. She stated that nobody outside the relationship understood what their dynamic was like. Gardner said he had no clarity on what actually occurred, describing his confusion about the events.
