VOZINHA TO JOIN COLO COLO AFTER WORLD CUP SUCCESS
Vozinha, the Cape Verde goalkeeper, is set to join Chilean club Colo Colo following his performances at the World Cup. Colo Colo president Anibal Mosa confirmed the signing, stating that Vozinha would travel to Chile in the coming days to undergo medical examinations before being presented at the Estadio Monumental. The transfer has yet to be finalised, though the club teased the announcement on social media. Mosa acknowledged that Vozinha's World Cup displays warranted the move and noted the signing's marketing appeal for the club.
Vozinha, aged 40, joined the World Cup without a club after his contract with Portuguese second division side Chaves expired. He became a notable figure during the tournament after Cape Verde drew goalless with eventual champions Spain in the group stage. According to one report, Vozinha gained 29 million social media followers following the match. Cape Verde, the second smallest nation to reach the World Cup finals, later lost 3-2 to Argentina in the last 32 after extra time. Colo Colo, based in Santiago, currently sit top of Chile's Liga de Primera division.
Vozinha has previously played club football across Slovakia, Angola, Moldova, Cyprus and Portugal. The goalkeeper's move to South America marks a significant career shift at an age when many players retire from professional competition.
