JORDAN DEVEY, SUPER BOWL WINNER WITH PATRIOTS, DIES AT 38

SAT 25 JUL 2026 US SPORTS

Jordan Devey, a retired NFL offensive lineman who won Super Bowl XLIX with the New England Patriots, died at age 38. According to a GoFundMe page established to support his wife Linsey and their four children, Devey took his own life. As of Saturday morning, the fundraising page had collected more than £92,000 of its £200,000 goal.

Devey did not play secondary school football, having stepped away from the sport after junior high owing to a knee condition causing inflammation and pain. He subsequently played tuba in his school band before serving a two-year mission with the Church of Latter Day Saints. He attended Snow College in Ephraim, Utah, for two seasons before transferring to Memphis for his final two years of college football. The Baltimore Ravens signed Devey after the 2013 NFL draft, and the Patriots later promoted him to their active roster in 2014, the season New England defeated the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX. Over his career, Devey played 44 NFL games across eight seasons, including 15 appearances with the San Francisco 49ers in 2015 and subsequent stints with the Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills through 2020.

Following his playing career, Devey volunteered as a coach for his children's sports teams and coached secondary school football in Idaho. In an interview with Fox 13 in Salt Lake City, Leslie Devey, described as his mother, stated she believed chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE)—a brain injury—contributed to her son's death on Tuesday. Support services are available through the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline on 988 in the United States, and through Samaritans on 116 123 in the UK and Ireland.
