MAHOMES SEEKS BRADY GUIDANCE DURING ACL REHABILITATION
Patrick Mahomes, quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, sought advice from Tom Brady during his recovery from anterior cruciate ligament surgery. Mahomes reported to the Chiefs' training camp at Missouri Western State University and disclosed that he had consulted Brady early in his rehabilitation process because Brady had sustained the same injury. Brady's personal experience with ACL rehabilitation informed Mahomes's own recovery programme.
Brady tore his ACL and medial collateral ligament during the 2008 season opener and missed the remainder of that year. He returned the following season and won the 2009 NFL Comeback Player of the Year award, followed by four further Super Bowl appearances. In his autobiography "The TB12 Method", Brady documented his rehabilitation approach, which involved doing more than recommended and accelerating his recovery timeline by incorporating football-specific movements such as dropping back, handing off the ball and throwing on the run. Brady also revealed that he developed a post-surgical infection in his knee but stated the injury did not trouble him afterwards, though he sustained a separate knee injury in 2020.
Brady sent Mahomes support following the Chiefs quarterback's injury and described the rehabilitation process as difficult on his Let's Go! podcast. Mahomes' recovery comes as the Kansas City Chiefs prepare for the new season, with head coach Andy Reid providing updates on the quarterback's status ahead of training camp activities involving players including tight end Travis Kelce.
