DIANE MORGAN SAYS ANN DROID ROLE MAY HAVE SAVED LIFE

SAT 25 JUL 2026

Diane Morgan has revealed that instruction she received for her BBC One comedy series Ann Droid may have indirectly saved a life. Morgan recalled that safety experts taught her to perform the Heimlich manoeuvre whilst filming a scene in which her character administers the technique to another character who is choking. Following the training session on set, the gaffer's friend choked during dinner that evening, and the gaffer applied the Heimlich manoeuvre after witnessing Morgan practise it, dislodging the food from his friend's airway.

Ann Droid is a six-part comedy series in which Morgan portrays Linda, an outdated humanoid care robot assigned to a grieving widow named Sue, played by Sue Johnston. The show centres on Sue's reluctance to accept the robot into her home after her son Michael arranges it to help her live independently following the death of her husband two years earlier. The series has generated positive reception among viewers.

Morgan discussed the incident during an appearance on This Morning to promote the series. The episode featuring the Heimlich manoeuvre scene has not yet aired, and no further details regarding when viewers will see the sequence have been confirmed.
