FOUR MEN KILLED AS CAR CRASHES INTO LAMPPOST IN HUYTON
Four men have been killed after a black Seat Cupra struck a lamppost on Liverpool Road in Huyton in the early hours of 24 July. Merseyside Police were called to the scene just before 2am following a report that the vehicle had come off the road whilst travelling from Liverpool towards Knowsley. Two men aged 23 and two other men aged 24 and 26 were pronounced dead at the scene. A 27-year-old passenger was taken to hospital and remains in a stable condition.
Specialist police officers are investigating the cause of the collision. Superintendent Paul Holden stated that the force's priority is to obtain answers for the families on how the crash occurred. Road closures remain in place on Liverpool Road and East Prescot Road, which is closed in both directions from its junction with Finch Lane to its junction with Princess Drive, with closures likely to remain throughout the weekend. A temporary flight restriction zone affecting drones has been established above Liverpool Road in Huyton under the Air Navigation Order 2016.
Police have appealed for witnesses or information from the public. Merseyside Police called for anyone who saw the incident or was driving through the area shortly before the crash to contact them, and for residents with doorbell footage to come forward. The next of kin of the four deceased men have been informed and are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.
