PIXAR ANNOUNCES 108 JOB CUTS AT EMERYVILLE HEADQUARTERS
Pixar Animation Studios notified California state officials that 108 employees will lose their jobs as part of wider cost-cutting measures across The Walt Disney Company. According to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filing submitted to state officials on Tuesday, most affected employees are scheduled to leave on 26 September. The layoffs will primarily affect creative roles, including 23 technical directors and 9 story artists.
Pixar submitted the notice using letterhead featuring Mrs. Incredible, the character from the studio's 2004 film The Incredibles, replacing the "I" in the Pixar logo. The studio is based in Emeryville, California. These cuts form part of Disney's broader restructuring strategy under Chief Executive Officer Josh D'Amaro, described as the "One Disney" initiative. More than 1,000 employees across Disney divisions including ESPN, Disney Entertainment Television and National Geographic are expected to lose their jobs in the round of cuts.
One report suggested the layoffs may be tied to the performance of Pixar's March release Hoppers, which barely broke even at the box office. In 2024, Pixar eliminated approximately 175 positions, representing about 14 per cent of its workforce at that time, with many affecting production and operations roles. Disney has not publicly commented on the Pixar layoffs or the choice of letterhead design.
