TONY ROMO ARRESTED IN MILWAUKEE ON SUSPICION OF OPERATING WHILE INTOXICATED
Tony Romo, former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and lead colour commentator for CBS, was arrested Thursday in Milwaukee on suspicion of operating while intoxicated (OWI), according to reports citing an arrest detention report obtained by Fox News 6. The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office took Romo into custody after he performed poorly on standard field sobriety tests whilst driving on a highway in the city. Romo was booked and released, with a court date scheduled for Monday, 21 September.
Under Wisconsin law, a first-offence OWI charge carries a fine and temporary driver's licence suspension. Depending on Romo's blood-alcohol level, he could also be required to complete a year-long sobriety programme. One report noted that the arrest detention report does not specify whether Romo submitted to breath testing or declined to do so. It remains unclear whether the arrest will affect Romo's employment at CBS, where he works as lead colour commentator alongside Jim Nantz during the NFL regular season, typically on Sundays.
Romo played 13 seasons with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent signed in 2003, throwing 248 touchdowns across his career and making four Pro Bowls and one All-Pro second team selection. He retired after the 2016 season and transitioned immediately to broadcasting at CBS, including commentary on Super Bowl LVIII. Romo grew up in Wisconsin and attended Eastern Illinois before joining the NFL.
