TEPPER COMMITS $500M MORE TO PANTHERS STADIUM RENOVATION
Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper announced an additional $500 million investment in the Bank of America Stadium renovation project, bringing the total upfront cost to more than $1.3 billion. The commitment came during discussions about extending the stadium's naming rights agreement with Bank of America. Tepper said the investment reflects a long-term partnership and shared commitment to the Carolinas. Renovations are expected to be completed by 2030.
The Panthers and the city previously committed $800 million to the stadium project in 2024. Tepper, operating through Tepper Sports & Entertainment, aims to position Bank of America Stadium as a venue for major events including a Super Bowl, the NFL Draft, the 2031 FIFA Women's World Cup, and other sporting occasions. The investment also supports the franchise's other operations, including Charlotte FC of Major League Football. Tepper stated his goal is to create experiences that enhance regional passion and energy whilst transforming the stadium corridor into a weekend destination for world-class sports and entertainment.
Tepper used the stadium announcement event to address expectations for the Panthers' upcoming season. He stated that the team is now a playoff contender after winning the NFC South and three additional games compared with the prior year. Tepper indicated that improvement should continue during head coach Dave Canales's third season. Falling short of playoff contention would raise questions about how the franchise would respond.
