KIRKBY MARVELLOUS MARKET CANCELLED DUE TO FORECAST HIGH WINDS
Knowsley Council cancelled the Marvellous Market scheduled for Kirkby town centre on Saturday 25 July due to forecast high winds. The event was due to run from 10:30am to 3pm as part of a regular monthly programme. The market hosts independent businesses and makers offering handcrafted jewellery, accessories, fashion, food, gifts and beauty items from a pitch on St Chads Parade.
The Kirkby Marvellous Market operates on the last Saturday of each month from April to October. Knowsley Council reintroduced the Marvellous Markets programme for 2026 following what it described as a positive response in the previous year. The programme also includes markets in Prescot on the third Saturday of March, May, July and September, and in Huyton on the first Saturday of each month from March to October, all running 10:30am to 3pm. Kirkby held its first Christmas market under the scheme in the previous year.
The next scheduled Marvellous Market event will take place in Huyton town centre on 1 August 2026. Councillor Tony Brennan, Knowsley Cabinet Member for Regeneration, stated that markets were "a great way to attract visitors into our town centres, boost footfall, and showcase the brilliant shops, cafés and venues". The established traditional Kirkby Market, which operates Monday to Saturday from 9am to 4:30pm and features over 130 stalls, remains unaffected by the cancellation.
