USYK ADVISES JOSHUA ON FURY TACTICS AHEAD OF SCHEDULED SUPERFIGHT
Oleksandr Usyk has released footage offering Anthony Joshua tactical advice for their anticipated heavyweight superfight later this year. In the footage, recorded during joint training sessions, Usyk describes Fury's fighting pattern, stating that Fury backs into the corner in early rounds to draw opponents forward before using his reach for counter-punches. Usyk recommends Joshua wait until after the sixth round to advance, when he believes Fury tires and loses speed. Usyk, the Ukrainian undisputed heavyweight champion, has defeated Fury twice—via split decision and unanimous decision—and holds an undefeated professional record of 25-0.
Joshua is scheduled to fight Albanian heavyweight Kristian Prenga on Saturday at the Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia, his first bout since stopping Jake Paul in December. Fury will face Poland's Mariusz Wach in Pattaya, Thailand, today for the inaugural WBC Metta Humanitarian Belt. Fury and Joshua agreed to fight in 2021 but the bout collapsed after Fury was ordered to complete a trilogy against Deontay Wilder. Both fighters have reportedly agreed to meet in November, though Fury has publicly expressed doubt the superfight will materialise.
Usyk became the only undisputed heavyweight champion in the four-belt era when he defeated Fury in Saudi Arabia in May 2024. The British heavyweight contest remains unconfirmed despite the November date, with Fury suggesting he is prepared to pursue alternative opponents if the Joshua fight does not proceed.
