CORONATION STREET ACTRESS TRACY SHAW SAYS CANCER INOPERABLE UNTIL TUMOURS SHRINK

FRI 24 JUL 2026 TV

Tracy Shaw, known for her role as Maxine Peacock on Coronation Street, has said her breast cancer cannot be operated on until her tumours shrink. Shaw announced in a video posted to Instagram that she underwent ultrasound scans to assess whether lesions on her left breast had reduced in size following chemotherapy treatment. She stated that the scans revealed the lesions had changed shape from circular to oval but had not significantly decreased in size. Shaw also reported that a lump she had discovered on her right breast was found to consist of cysts.

Shaw was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year and has been undergoing chemotherapy. In the video, she described her expectations for the treatment outcome and acknowledged the physical toll the chemotherapy had taken on her body. She expressed disappointment that the intensive treatment had not produced the results she had anticipated. Shaw stated that surgical intervention cannot proceed until the lesions shrink further.

Shaw said in the video that she hopes additional rounds of chemotherapy may achieve the necessary reduction in tumour size. She remains unable to proceed with surgery at present pending further treatment. Shaw is best known for her television work on Coronation Street, and has also appeared in Casualty and Doctors, as well as pursuing a brief music career and theatre work.
