BRYSON DECHAMBEAU'S TEE SHOT NARROWLY MISSES IAN POULTER AT LIV GOLF EVENT

THU 23 JUL 2026 GOLF

Bryson DeChambeau's tee shot on the par-4 7th hole at JCB Golf & Country Club narrowly missed Ian Poulter during a LIV Golf UK round on 23 July. The ball passed close to Poulter's head as he prepared to play his approach shot. Poulter shouted "fore" to alert others to the danger. DeChambeau, unaware that Poulter's group was still playing the hole, had struck the shot from the tee.

In a post-round interview, Poulter stated that the near-miss had caused his heart rate to spike and that he heard the ball cutting through the air as it passed his ear. Poulter said the incident was "not his fault at all", explaining that his group had spent approximately three minutes searching for a player's ball in the rough. He added that a newly positioned back tee on the hole, which extends the par-4 to 494 yards, meant the tee area could not see the fairway where the shot landed. Poulter noted that DeChambeau likely believed he could see movement from players further up the fairway once the search concluded and had played his shot accordingly.

Poulter stated the ball would "have hurt a lot" had it made contact. He characterised the incident as "one of those things" rather than a deliberate act. No injury resulted from the near-miss.
