ELLIOT ANDERSON JOINS MANCHESTER CITY FOR £116M FROM FOREST
Elliot Anderson completed a £116m transfer to Manchester City from Nottingham Forest, becoming the club's record signing. The 23-year-old England international signed a five-year contract until 2031. Anderson described City as the "kings of Manchester" in remarks that referenced Manchester United, who were also interested in signing him. He stated that City's success and trophy-winning culture over the past decade informed his decision to join.
Anderson began his career at Newcastle before moving to Forest for £35m in July 2024. His England debut came in September 2023 in a 2-0 victory over Andorra, and he was part of England's squad at the recent World Cup. One report noted that before Morgan Rogers' £117m transfer to Chelsea from Aston Villa on Tuesday, Anderson's fee stood as the record for a British player. The midfielder said he is taking a three-week break following his involvement in North America but identified the Manchester derby on 13 September as a fixture he anticipates.
Hugo Viana, Manchester City's director of football, praised Anderson as an "outstanding young midfield talent" with potential for continued development. Anderson stated he believes he has not yet reached his peak at 23 years old and intends to improve further. The deal was agreed three weeks ago but finalised this week following Anderson's return from the World Cup. This is City's first major signing since Enzo Maresca succeeded Pep Guardiola as manager.
