SEBASTIAN BERHALTER TRANSFERS TO MIDDLESBROUGH
Sebastian Berhalter, a midfielder for the United States men's national team, is set to transfer from Vancouver Whitecaps to English Football League Championship side Middlesbrough, according to reports. Vancouver will receive a $2 million transfer fee for the 25-year-old. Berhalter has made 120 appearances and scored 14 goals since joining Vancouver in 2022, and was named to the MLS Best XI last season as a two-time All-Star.
Berhalter appeared in all five matches for the USMNT at the World Cup and has made 18 international appearances, scoring two goals including one against Türkiye. His contract with Vancouver was set to expire following the 2026 MLS season. At Middlesbrough, Berhalter will rejoin former Columbus Crew teammate Aidan Morris, who signed with the Championship club in June 2024. Middlesbrough finished fifth in the Championship in 2025-26 and reached the playoff final after Southampton was expelled from the competition following an EFL investigation into alleged staff misconduct.
Berhalter is the son of Gregg Berhalter, who held the position of USMNT head coach. Middlesbrough have played in the Championship for 15 of the past 16 seasons and most recently lost a playoff final against Hull City at Wembley Stadium, missing promotion to the Premier League.
