MIDLAND ROBBER JAILED FOR SHOP THEFT AND ASSAULT ON POLICE OFFICER
Gary Crane has been sentenced to 38 months in prison following a robbery and assault on a police officer in Rugby. In April, Crane entered a shop on Clifton Road, pushed the shopkeeper over and stole alcohol. Police located him in a nearby street shortly after with the stolen goods in his possession.
As officers placed Crane in a van for transport, he headbutted a police officer. The officer sustained no injury in the incident. CCTV footage from the scene corroborated an assault on the shop worker. Crane admitted both robbery and assaulting a constable in the execution of their duty at an earlier hearing.
In addition to his prison sentence, Crane was ordered to pay a victim surcharge fee. He was 48 at the time of sentencing.
