MUSK SAYS GROK WILL MAKE ODYSSEY FILM TRUE TO HOMER

Elon Musk announced that his AI platform Grok Imagine will produce a full-length film adaptation of Homer's Odyssey before the end of the year. In a post on X, Musk stated the film would be "historically accurate and true to the art of Homer". Musk linked to a three-minute clip of footage purportedly generated by Grok Imagine, depicting a scene between Odysseus and the nymph Calypso. The announcement followed the release of Christopher Nolan's Odyssey film, which Musk has repeatedly criticised.

Nolan's film, released on Friday, stars Matt Damon as Odysseus and Anne Hathaway as Penelope, and achieved a global box office total of $264 million (£196 million) in its opening weekend. The cast includes Black actor Lupita Nyong'o as Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, and trans actor Elliot Page as Sinon. Before the film's release, Musk reposted abusive messages directed at Nolan's casting choices, stating that Nolan "wants the awards" and "has lost his integrity". Nyong'o responded to critics in May, saying: "Our cast is representative of the world. I'm not spending my time thinking of a defence."

Nolan's Odyssey received a 97% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes and near-universal critical acclaim. Musk's stated intention to create an alternative version represents an extension of his public criticism of Nolan's creative decisions. No further details about Grok Imagine's production timeline or budget have been provided.
