CASEMIRO JOINS INTER MIAMI AS MLS INVESTIGATES TAMPERING

WED 22 JUL 2026 INTERNATIONAL

Inter Miami have signed Brazilian midfielder Casemiro as a free agent on a deal running until the end of the 2027 MLS Sprint Season, with an option to extend through the 2028-29 season. The transfer is under investigation by Major League Football for alleged tampering. LA Galaxy initially held Casemiro's discovery rights, which would ordinarily have prevented Inter Miami from negotiating with him directly. Inter Miami and LA Galaxy reached a settlement to facilitate the signing, though the MLS stated the settlement terms would not be released until the tampering investigation concludes.

Casemiro, a five-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid, spent four seasons at Manchester United before departing as a free agent. In MLS, most major acquisitions from outside the league operate through a discovery process in which each club maintains priority to sign up to five designated players. Teams may trade discovery rights between themselves, enabling negotiation with a player otherwise unavailable to them. The MLS statement confirmed it is "reviewing a tampering allegation" and said it is "gathering all relevant information" whilst declining further comment pending completion of the review.

Casemiro joins an Inter Miami squad that includes Lionel Messi, Rodrigo De Paul and Luis Suárez as the club defends its 2025 MLS Cup title. He awaits visa approval to take up his position. The player represented Brazil at the 2026 World Cup, where reports indicated they were eliminated by Norway in the last 16.
