CHARLIE WOODS ELIMINATED FROM U.S. JUNIOR AMATEUR IN PLAYOFF
Charlie Woods, the 17-year-old son of 15-time major champion Tiger Woods, was eliminated from the U.S. Junior Amateur at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, during a playoff on 22 July. Woods required a birdie on the par-5 first hole to advance but his approach shot landed in rough left of the green. A camera shutter sounded during his backswing as he attempted his third shot from approximately 25 yards away. His subsequent chip shot failed to reach the hole, and he missed his par attempt, finishing with a bogey and elimination from the 14-for-2 playoff for a spot in the round of 64 matchplay field.
Woods shot rounds of 76 and 70 during stroke play to reach the sudden-death playoff. His performance represented his best result at the junior championship to date. In previous years, he shot 82 and 80 in 2024, and 80 and 74 in 2025. Woods is committed to play college golf at Florida State. His father won the U.S. Junior Amateur three consecutive times from 1991 to 1993.
Woods remains eligible to compete in the U.S. Junior Amateur one further time in 2027. The incident during the playoff hole occurred when a spectator's mobile phone camera activated during his backswing, potentially affecting his concentration during a crucial moment in the competition.
