SAMSUNG REVEALS SMART GLASSES WITH NINE-HOUR BATTERY LIFE

Samsung has disclosed further specifications for its forthcoming smart glasses, which will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 platform and deliver nine hours of battery life per charge. The company revealed the details at its Unpacked event, following an earlier demonstration at Google I/O in May. The glasses will support Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity and include an integrated camera, microphones and speakers, but will not feature a built-in display. A charging case will provide sufficient power for seven additional charges.

The frames have been developed in partnership with eyewear brands Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, with four designs shown so far and more promised. Samsung's Chief Operating Officer of Mobile Experiences, Won-Joon Choi, stated that durability testing showed the glasses to be "multiple times stronger than regular glasses", and confirmed that the company has filed more than 200 patents related to the technology. The glasses will integrate with Google's Gemini AI assistant and Android devices, including Samsung's own smartwatches. Samsung and Google are addressing privacy concerns associated with camera-equipped glasses by equipping the devices with an LED light that activates during recording and integrated software that disables the camera if the light is covered or obscured.

The company has not yet announced pricing or a specific release date, though it has stated that further information will be provided in autumn. The glasses represent Samsung and Google's entry into the smart eyewear market, where Meta currently offers camera-equipped models through Ray-Ban.
