ABBEY CLANCY'S DAUGHTER NEARLY ARRESTED OVER AIRPORT GUN JOKE
Abbey Clancy has recounted an incident in which her daughter Sophia, 15, nearly faced arrest at New York airport after making a comment about firearms during immigration control. Clancy, 40, travelled to New York with her four children: Sophia Ruby, 15, Liberty, 11, Johnny, eight, and Jack, seven (one report listed Liberty as 10 and Johnny as seven, and Jack as six). During passport processing, Sophia made a remark linking her fingerprints to guns, which caused border force officers to question her further. Clancy intervened to clarify that her daughter was asking how fingerprints on weapons are used to identify criminals, rather than claiming her own fingerprints were on a gun.
Clancy spoke about the incident on the Therapy Crouch podcast, which she co-hosts with her husband Peter Crouch, a former England player. She described US immigration officers as unwilling to tolerate jokes and noted that the encounter occurred because Sophia had renewed her passport since her last visit to America and was required to provide fingerprints. The misunderstanding escalated when officers requested clarification about Sophia's remarks, prompting Clancy to step in with an explanation. She characterised the airport experience as notably more security-focused than UK border control.
The incident was not the only disruption during their arrival. Clancy recounted that shortly afterwards, a woman left an unattended bag near the family in the queue, causing other passengers to alert security staff. Clancy said the woman was accused of leaving a suspicious bag. She described the overall arrival experience as chaotic, though no formal charges or arrests were made.
