VIVIENNE JOLIE-PITT FILES TO DROP FATHER'S SURNAME
Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, who turned 18 last week, has filed a petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court to remove Brad Pitt's surname from her legal name. Court documents list the reason as "personal". A hearing has been scheduled for 2 November. Vivienne becomes the fourth of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's children to take this action.
Shiloh Jolie, the couple's first biological child, was granted a name change on turning 18 in 2024 and now uses that surname alone. Maddox and Zahara, aged 24 and 21 respectively, filed court documents in April to remove Pitt's name. California law requires name change petitioners to publish newspaper advertisements; Maddox and Zahara published notices four times weekly in June. Zahara's name was already read as Zahara Marley Jolie at her university graduation ceremony, and she had introduced herself by that name in a sorority introduction video in November 2023.
A hearing for Maddox and Zahara's name changes is scheduled for September. If no written opposition to the petitions is received before that date, the court will rule in favour of the motions. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been contacted for comment on Vivienne's filing.
