HEAD OF TRUMP AI STANDARDS CENTRE RESIGNS AFTER THREE MONTHS

TUE 21 JUL 2026 AI

Chris Fall has resigned as head of the Centre for AI Standards and Innovation (CAISI), the Trump administration's AI policy agency. Fall held the position for three months following his appointment in April 2026. No reason has been publicly stated for his departure. Arvind Raman, head of the Commerce Department office that oversees the AI testing institute, will serve as temporary head until a permanent replacement is found.

Fall's role involved working with leading US AI laboratories including Anthropic, Google DeepMind, OpenAI, Microsoft and Elon Musk's xAI to test frontier and unreleased AI models for security vulnerabilities. The Trump administration has taken a hands-on approach to AI policy, requiring contractors to provide unrestricted access to their systems and allow use of their technologies for any lawful purpose. When Anthropic rejected these demands, the company was designated a supply chain risk. The administration has also called on AI companies to provide equity stakes, which Trump said would "create almost a partnership with the American public".

Fall's departure marks another personnel shift at CAISI. His predecessor, Collin Burns, left the position in less than a week in April after the Trump administration determined his previous work for Anthropic created a conflict. The resignation will likely prompt further changes to the administration's AI strategy at a time when Trump has made AI development a stated priority for both the US economy and national security.
