GEORGIA RUNNING BACK DANTE DOWDELL OUT INDEFINITELY AFTER ATV ACCIDENT
Dante Dowdell, a running back for the University of Georgia, suffered serious injuries in an ATV accident near his home during the offseason. Dowdell is hospitalised at Shepherd Centre in Atlanta. Georgia head coach Kirby Smart disclosed the incident at SEC Media Days on 21 July, stating that Dowdell "had some serious injuries" from the recreational vehicle accident. Smart said he does not know the specifics of the incident or when Dowdell will return to play.
Dowdell transferred to Georgia from the University of Kentucky this season. According to reports, he was Kentucky's second-leading rusher in 2025. Smart indicated that whilst Dowdell has progressed past the acute phase of his injuries, the full extent of his recovery and timeline for a return to the field remain uncertain. The head coach said: "He's out of the really tough range, but as far as his complete health and coming all the way back, I don't know what that looks like in terms of this year."
No further details about the accident have been disclosed. The Georgia football programme has not announced a revised return date or rehabilitation timeline for Dowdell.
