SEAN MCCANN SELECTED TO SWIM FOR SCOTLAND AT COMMONWEALTH GAMES
Sean McCann, the brother of Madeleine McCann who went missing in Portugal in 2007, has been selected to compete for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The Games begin on Thursday and run until 2 August 2026. McCann, who is 21 and studying chemical engineering, will compete in freestyle disciplines. His twin sister Amelie has also been selected to compete at the Games.
McCann began competing in swimming at age eight and previously raced for Scotland at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago in 2023, where he competed in the 400 metres and 1500 metres freestyle events. According to Scottish Swimming, he trains nine times weekly in the pool alongside three gym sessions, totalling over 20 hours of training per week. McCann has won multiple county titles and become a regional and national champion in his age group. He has stated his ambition to compete at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles and to qualify for Team GB.
McCann's selection marks his Commonwealth Games debut for Scotland. The event will take place at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre during the 11-day competition. It remains unknown whether his parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, will attend the event.
