TWO US TOURISTS STABBED AT ATHENS ACROPOLIS

Emergency services responded to an incident at the Acropolis of Athens early this morning after two American tourists were stabbed by a man with a knife. Police arrived at the scene at approximately 8am following reports of a man threatening people at the ticket counter of the ancient landmark. Officers arrested a suspect found near the scene with a knife in his hand. According to local reports, the suspect is understood to be aged in his mid to late 50s and has initial indications of psychiatric problems.

The male tourist sustained a serious injury to the leg and received treatment at Red Cross Hospital, whilst the female tourist suffered a knife wound to the hand. Witnesses reported that the man stepped in front of the woman at the ticket office during the attack, which occurred as the pair waited to enter the Acropolis. The Athens Police Department detained the suspect at the scene. Authorities stated they are investigating the circumstances of the attack, though they have not disclosed information about potential motives.

The Acropolis of Athens, a UNESCO World Heritage site housing classical architectural remains including the Parthenon, attracts approximately four million visitors annually. The incident occurs following reports that the British Foreign Office issued fresh travel advice for Greece this month following several attacks during the week. No further details regarding the investigation have been released by Greek authorities at this time.
