ESPN CUTS TIES WITH ANALYST RYAN CLARK
ESPN has ended its contract with NFL analyst Ryan Clark, according to reports. Clark was informed of the decision mid-show, with the layoff among the first in a wave of cuts expected at the broadcaster later in the week. Clark had signed his current contract with ESPN in February 2024 and was expected to play a significant role in the network's coverage of Super Bowl LXI.
Clark began appearing on ESPN whilst still an active player and became a full-time ESPN personality following his retirement from the NFL after the 2014 season. He also hosts The Pivot podcast and Inside The NFL, which moved to The CW in 2023 and became an original series on Twitter as of last year. The move comes whilst ESPN has been extending on-air contracts for staff at both ESPN and NFL Network.
The timing of Clark's departure is notable given that ESPN is reportedly preparing to increase compensation for former NFL player Pat McAfee to north of £60 million annually. The broadcaster has indicated that additional staff reductions will follow the initial round of layoffs later this week.
